Campaign Story
Who is Ebony Law?
Ebony Law wants to reposition lawyers as strategic solution partners. We’re redefining the look, feel, and purpose of practicing law - for both attorneys and the public. We want to change what lawyers do, how we do it, and why we do it. We want to change what a law practice looks like.
Right out of law school, Ebony Law’s founder Keenan Holmes worked at a big down
town firm, but he didn’t fit in with the business model of “Big Law.” He didn’t look, think, practice, or act like “Big Law.” So in 2008 Keenan started his own law practice where he had the freedom to build sustainable relationships with his clients in a non-traditional, purposeful way.
For over a decade, Keenan provided his clients affordable access to legal services that positively impacted their life and business decisions. He did his best to pay attention to their needs and wants, but also what they lacked from a legal support perspective. Keenan saw a huge void in the legal marketplace - ACCESS - and how lack of access adversely changes the equation for people’s lives and businesses. He also wanted to provide a productive, comfortable work environment where lawyers are expected and encouraged to be themselves.
Then in 2020, Keenan leveraged his legal experience and business acumen to create Ebony Law, a black-owned and led, for profit, social enterprise law firm focused on increasing and democratizing access to high quality, affordable lawyers for those needing counsel, advice, and representation most - small and micro businesses and compromised individuals.
Our Legal Access Initiatives
In 2021, Ebony Law launched a Legal Access Initiative for housing stability in partnership with the Pittsburgh Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA), which has supported hundreds of families in need as they navigate the legal dimension of housing crisis and displacement. Inspired by the success of that program in serving the needs of our community, we are now launching a Legal Access Initiative for Small Businesses & Nonprofits facing their own constraints in the legal market. But that shift is going to take more than just our team.
The heart of this new initiative is our Small Business Legal Access Package.
This package will empower small businesses and nonprofits with 45 days of legal advice. In that time, we’ll provide legal counseling and help them tackle their most pressing needs pertaining to, such as: business formation, contract review, employment agreements and handbooks, separation agreements or disputes, terms of service agreements, compliance matters, and trademarks/copyright issues. Whatever an organization needs to launch, pivot, negotiate, or solve a legal problem. Ebony Law creates a sustainable remote, virtual working environment and model for legal services.
This legal model has never been done before, but there is a reason for this - Ebony Law didn’t exist and now it does. This is the future of law.
How You Can Change Legal Support
To prove the model, we are launching this campaign to provide the Small Business Legal Access Package to 100 small businesses and nonprofits throughout the U.S. With the momentum of this launch behind our initiative, we can prove the model and bring partner organizations to the conversation to expand its reach.
We’re focused on access, so we’ve priced the package at only $500.
Your contribution can help cover the cost of the package for a small business, a nonprofit or a group of entrepreneurs. You can also assist us in bringing accessible legal support to more communities through seminars, training, and legal outreach.
Your support of these programs can have profound ripple effects across communities as small businesses and nonprofits gain knowledge and access to trustworthy legal help. This isn’t about just Ebony Law or you, this is about US, positively impacting and strengthening the vitality of our micro-business, small business and nonprofit communities

About the Founder & Team
Keenan Holmes is the Founder and CEO of Ebony Law. Having practiced in conventional law firms for years, Keenan saw a way to do things differently, to un-think law as we know it.
Shunning traditional law firm rigidity, exclusion, and outdated ways of thinking, he’s created a practice at Ebony Law that cultivates a commitment to impact and a community of talented, diverse professionals, all with social impact initiatives at the forefront.
Keenan is an attorney, a business strategist and mediator. He prides himself on being a human and businessman first, lawyer second, which allows him to provide real help to real people like the companies and founders in our Small Business Legal Access Initiative.
Keenan has structured over 1,000 deals and transactions including the purchase and sale of businesses and/or real estate, partnership agreements, strategic formation of entities, and employment buyouts to name a few.

The crux of what we do has been to democratize access to high quality, affordable lawyers for those needing counsel, advice, and representation most – small businesses and compromised individuals.
One way we’re doing that is crowdfunding, allowing all of us to lend a helping hand to those as they are just getting started.
